Welcome!

Knee Deep Shag brims with an energy rarely seen in modem music. With a dynamic live show and a smart new album the band is well on its way to the next level.

On their new release "Good Disguise" Knee Deep Shag explodes the confines of the modem rock genre by combining elements of rock, pop and soul with strong songwriting and stunning vocal harmonies.

Championed by the Michigan music press since the early nineties the band has received two consecutive Detroit Music Awards ('98 & '99). They have shared bills with such notables as Collective Soul, Wilco, Eve 6 and Better than Ezra.

Knee Deep Shag has also been the topic of discussion on M2 (MTV2) as well as music industry websites as mtv.com and The Velvet Rope.

From the groovy liner notes to the crisp production, it's pretty obvious Kalamazoo's Knee Deep Shag has invested some serious time and bucks into its latest album, recorded at Grand Rapids' Station C Studios. Combined with a series four CD-release parties, band members have high hopes they'll finally get-some deserved recognition from music fans and industry reps beyond West Michigan.

Weather that happens based on the pop-flavored 'Good Disguise' depends as much on the unpredictability of pop/altemative rock's direction as an industry as it does on Knee Deep Shag's eclectic material. Certainly there are some band gems here: '3 P.M." is the 'hit single" if there is one, with its clever chorus, pert backing vocals and a catchy melody that puts an indelible stamp on the brain cells.

But juxtaposed with the hard driving, funky and immediately likable 'Contentment Couch" and the uptempo 'Faded and Live" (in which lead singer Matt Gross shows of: his amazing range), the band's slower, jazz-textured and offbeat tunes are more of an acquired taste - kind of like an imported Bermuda Wheat beer.
